Welcome to the online presence of the AD Water Polo Association and the home of the AD Vipers.
This site is provided to track and chronicle the future developments as well as the history of what was originally the Australian Services Water Polo Association (ASWPA), then transitioned to ADFWPA and has now become the ADWPA.
Authority for the conduct of Water Polo within the Australian Defence Organisation (AD) rests with the AD Water Polo Association (ADWPA) and is derived from affiliation with the Australian Defence Sports Council (ADSC).
The affairs of AD Water Polo are conducted by the AD Water Polo Executive Committee which is subject to the authority of the Australian Defence Sports Council (ADSC). The ADWPA is a non-profit organisation, which seeks to turn back monies it receives into the development of Water Polo throughout the AD Organisation.
The ADWPA is directly responsible to the ADSC for the co-ordination and administration of all matters relating to national inter-service and national combined Services Water Polo, for the implementation of applicable sporting policy and acts as an adviser to the ADSC on Water Polo.

The ADWPA was originally formed as the Australian Services Water Polo Association (ASWPA) in 1983 through the need to better promote and market Water Polo within the Defence Force. It aims to foster competition in the sport of Water Polo within and between the Services of the AD Organisation. The ADWPA also provides a means for talented Defence players to gain valuable experience at a state and national country districts level while remaining in the Defence Force.
The ADWPA fields both men's and women's senior teams selected from serving members of the AD Organisation. The ADWPA aims to manage, control and organise competitive events in the sport of Water Polo between teams representing AD Water Polo and civilian Water Polo organisations. It also seeks to manage, control and organise competitive events in the sport of Water Polo between teams representing AD Water Polo and the Service teams of other nations.
Each year ADWPA plans a busy schedule with the Australian Defence Water Polo Championships competition between Tri-Service teams (Army, Navy and Air Force) representing each State or Region. From this competition, the men’s and women’s AD Water Polo teams are selected. This team then participates in a training camp and then moves on to compete in matches against Country Districts teams representing all the States and Territories of Australia and selected International teams at tournaments such as Arafura Games and Australian Country Championships.
