The 1996 ADF Championships were held in Canberra in the week prior to the Australian Country Championships. The New Zealand Combined Services team (consisting mainly of Police) were invited to compete. The mens teams competing were NSW, NQLD, SQLD, SA/VIC/ACT Combined, ADFA and NZ Services. The teams were divided into 2 pools. Pool 1 was NSW, SA/VIC/ACT and NQLD. Pool 2 was SQLD, ADFA and NZ. The NZ team was very strong and won all their matches and defeated NSW 11 - 7 in the final. Being that the NZ team was ineligible for the ADF title NSW were first, SQLD and SA/VIC/ACT played off for second with SQLD winning 9 - 8.
Once again there were too few women for a proper competition but an ADF team was selected from those present.
