Australian Country Team European Tour

Welcome home to Carrie, Luke and Ben after their recent tour of Europe with the Australian Country Teams. According to Camille they all played very well and although the going was pretty tough for centre forwards Carrie and Luke with the different interpretations of hole play they all had a great time.

Don't forget Interservice at Randwick Barracks, Sydney 28 Nov to 2 Dec 2011, Coogee Bay just down the road, a week of sun, sand and Water Polo. Wouldn't miss it for the world.

2012 Australian Country Water Polo Championships

Australian Country Water Polo Championships for 2012 Confirmed. The dates are 8 - 12 May and the venue will be the Miami Pool on the Gold Coast which is a sensational polo venue. Having an insider on the organising committee, I can give you the scoop that they intend this tournament to be bigger than Ben Hur (substitute the Lord Of The Rings for you young un's).
They are proposing to play evening games under lights (no more 8 am games for anybody!) and a massive social program that will begin poolside and just get debaucherous from there on in. This is the not to be missed tournament of the decade (Pete McLeans words not mine) so be at Interservice and train hard to give yourself the best shot at making the team. I am volunteering to cut the oranges right now and seeing as I was never the team junior (thanks Bloory!) I will even volunteer to carry the balls and caps........... it just seems like the fair thing to do.

Congratulations to Carrie Fettes and Ben Scott who were both selected in the Australian Country Team for 2011 which will be touring Europe and playing tournaments in Holland and Greece later this year. Congratulations also to Luke Woodland and Nick Whitehead who were named as reserves for the Australian Country Team as well.

Next major event on the calendar is the 2011 Interservice being held at Randwick Barracks, Sydney the first week in December 2011. Contact your local area rep (see the contacts page) for details and to register your interest.
Australian Country Championships 2011

The Australian Country Champs are now over. The Mens and Womens teams both had average performances with the Women placing 5th out of 7 and the Men placing 6th out of 7. Both teams performed well in some games but lacked consistency overall with the chance for berths in the medal rounds for both teams being missed by 1 win. See the applicable AD Tour page for further details and updates to the Caps pages are now complete. Photos still to come.
2011 Australian Country Water Polo Championships

The dates and venue for the 2011 Australian Country Water Polo Championships have been confirmed. The carnival will be held in Newcastle, NSW and will be coordinated by Hunter Valley Water Polo. The dates are Wednesday 11th May to Saturday 14th May.
AD players at the Hawaiian Invitational

In August 3 AD Water Polo players travelled to Hawaii as part of the Australian Country Mens and Womens teams. Luke played in the Mens team which placed seventh in the tournament but unfortunately I have few details. Carrie and Kim toured with the womens team and both played very well, they placed third and won a bronze medal. Below is an excerpt from a report made to AWPI.

A hard fast game girls got off to a slow start but fort (sic) back in second half 2:6.
12th August
Auspole vs Anuenue B 21:5 (7 Jessica Armstrong, 5 Carrie Fettes, 3 Libby Magann, 2 Tegan Baines, 1 Karla Stewart, 1 Bree Hoek, 1 Jackie Barlow, 1 Kristy Hogan)
Players Player - (1) Jessica Armstrong & (2) tie between Kim Waterhouse & Carrie Fettes
We were a faster stronger team, capitalising on using the whole team and played well right to the end.  
13th August
Auspole vs OMBAL 14:10 (6 Libby Magann, 2 Jess Armstrong, 2 Jackie Barlow, 2 Rosie Woodland, 1 Caroline Zanussi, 1 Bree Hoek)
Players Player - (1 outright)  Libby Magann
Best game yet controlled and well disciplined in defence and attack, using extra man well and driving well to create shooting opportunities.
Next Game 5.50pm tonight if a win go through to semi finals. vs Hawaiian Islands (they have won two and drawn 1)

2010 Interservice

The AD Championships were held from 29th Nov - 2nd Dec in Canberra. Four mens teams and three womens teams took up the challenge with NSW winning both mens and womens competitions. For more details see the AD Championships 2010 page.

The dates for the AD Water Polo Championships (Interservice) are now set and they are 29 Nov to the 02 Dec 2010 inclusive. The venue is the ADFA pool in Canberra with accommodation at RMC.

Australian Country Champs

The Australian Country Water Polo Championships have been run and won. The Ladies played awesome polo throughout the tournament and thoroughly deserved their place in the gold medal game. But a tough encounter with NSW saw them end up with second place and the Silver Medal after finding themselves in serious foul trouble at the end of the first half. Well done to the Lady Vipers. The men finished up in a tight tussle with WA for 5th place and after the game going to overtime came up with a 2 goal victory.
